January 2019 – With a team of volunteers in collaboration with Terre Sans Frontières, optician Nathalie Raymond and her daughter Marie Côté worked to provide hundreds of pairs of glasses to residents of the village of Libertad and the city of San Jose on the island of Panay.
Once again, it was a meaningful experience filled with enriching human exchanges on both sides, alongside a dedicated team of collaborators. I had the pleasure of working with three young women, including two students, who impressed me with their altruism and their understanding of the work.
Thanks to my daughter Marie for sharing this passion with me.
January 2018 – In collaboration with Terre Sans Frontières and the Rotary Club, optician Nathalie Raymond travelled with a group of 18 volunteers to Indonesia, on the island of Flores.
In the city of Bajawa and the village of Riung, they examined and provided glasses to more than 2,000 people in need. They experienced wonderful exchanges with the local community while also discovering a beautiful and remote part of our world.
January 2016 – In the villages of Tibiao and Valderama, we examined 1,128 people. We distributed 1,196 prescription glasses and 640 non-prescription sunglasses.
We observed that most people aged 60 and over had cataracts, and since many could not hope for surgery, we improved their vision as much as possible using the available donated glasses.
Thank you to Sister Féliza and Brother Nolin for their warm welcome and organization.
September 2014 – Nathalie Raymond, optician, and Véronique Dion, optometrist, were part of a team of vision care professionals who carried out a humanitarian mission in Madagascar, Africa.
Our luggage contained 1,182 prescription glasses, 622 non-prescription sunglasses, as well as all the instruments required for eye examinations and eyewear adjustments.
We worked at the Place Belle-Vue clinic in Antsirabe, run by the Little Franciscans of Mary. We examined 1,019 people, distributed 953 prescription glasses, 561 non-prescription sunglasses, and 364 clip-ons.
The sisters’ welcome was warm, and their assistance was exceptional for the entire team—an incredibly enriching and rewarding human experience.
